What have 200 people, a knitted nativity set and a flock of sheep got in common?

Yes, that’s right, they all attend the Crib Service in Hilton every year.  In the run up to the service, our knitted Mary & Joseph spent the whole of Advent travelling around the village, staying with a different family every night.  Their journey was intended to reflect that time, over 2000 years ago, when the real Mary & Joseph travelled all the way to Bethlehem only to find that there was no room in the inn.  Fortunately for our weary pair, they were welcomed into people’s homes throughout Hilton and did not have to spend the night in a stable.  Mary & Joseph travelled with a flock of knitted sheep and, each time they moved on, one of the sheep stayed behind – to be reunited with the rest of the flock during the Crib Service.

Once again this year, Mary & Joseph and their flock of sheep will be setting off around Hilton and are looking for places to stay.  Could you offer them a bed for the night?  What better way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ than to welcome his parents into your own home or workplace!  On the night of their visit, you could share a drink, a prayer or a meal with the previous hosts or maybe even organise a small party.  We are also looking for sheep-knitting volunteers to help boost the flock numbers.

If you would like to take part in this wonderful Christmas celebration then please contact Rachel or Phil Wood on 830866.  The journey is open to everyone – you don’t have to be a regular churchgoer to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas!
