Hilton Reflects on 1914
Sunday August 3rd and Monday August 4th
Plans for Hilton’s commemoration of the start of World War 1
continue to take shape as you can see from the details below:-
Floral Displays and memorabilia will be featured in the Church on the Sunday and Monday.
Monday evening in the Village Hall –Songs of the Time – refreshments provided by members of the Women’s Institute.
Monday evening - Formal and solemn candlelit vigil in our village Church.
Most importantly, please continue to look out for your fascinating memorabilia, not just of the conflict but life generally in those times. You can let any of us know about them, at any time, we already have some wonderful promises but know there are many more to come.
Don’t forget to look out for poppy seeds and stagger their planting so that the gardens of Hilton can represent the Flanders poppy fields.
If any of you feel like dressing up in the style of the era to really enter into the spirit of the Monday evening commemoration – we would love to see you.
Please get in touch with us if you have any items of interest or would just like to be involved in the events. Please look on the village website www.hilton-village.comfor more information on the proposed events. We update the site regularly and you will find some interesting village WW1 archive information available to view as we move ever closer to August 4th.
