HILTON’S SCARECROW COMPETITION

SATURDAY 27TH & SUNDAY 28TH JUNE 2009

Hilton Village Hall Committee is hosting a fun-filled village event. Our Scarecrows have been so popular that we have decided to make it a weekend event this year! Scarecrows can be put out and viewed on Saturday 27th June and voting will take place on Sunday 28th June. There will also be Open Gardens to view from 12.00 noon on the Sunday with ‘Tea on the Green’ from 3.00 p.m.

When viewing Scarecrows on  the Saturday, dont forget to pop into the church to have a cup of tea and an opportunity to buy some plants.

If you need inspiration – our theme this year is Nursery Rhymes. If you would like to book your space for your scarecrow/s or open garden, please ring either Deb Bridge (830157) or Liz Bush (830202) and we will make sure you are on THE MAP. This is very important, because if you are not on our master map the village and its visitors cannot vote for your scarecrow.

Like last year, we are adding a voting slip (1 per household/family) to our map of the village with the scarecrows marked on it and these votes will be counted at the end of Sunday 28th June and a prize awarded for 1st place. There will also be a special trophy awarded by the Hilton Village Hall Committee. So come on, if you made one last time, you will remember what fun it was and if you didn’t and kicked yourself afterwards for not having a go - you have the opportunity to show your friends and neighbours how creative you really are!!!!

The Open Gardens were so popular at the Queen’s Jubilee Event that we have included them again this year. The gardens will be shown on our scarecrow map so that you can plan your route round the village. As above, anyone wishing to open their garden on Sunday, please let Deb or Liz know so that we can include you on the map and clarify your arrangements.

Voting maps will be available on Sunday 28th June. We decided not to have a closing date for registration BUT please let us know by Friday 26th June so that we can update the maps.

‘Tea on the Green’ – available from 3.00 p.m. on Sunday 28th June at the Village Hall and ‘on the Green’ if the weather is kind to us. There will be a selection of goodies available to make up your own special tea – sandwiches, scones (with cream of course), celebration cupcakes and a most refreshing cup of tea.

Hopefully the village website team will be kind enough to update the village scarecrow/open garden map regularly and you will be able to see who’s registered, and who’s having a go and you can then get an idea of where your competition is lurking ………………

If I have forgotten any useful information or you are unsure about anything – please give me (Liz) a ring on 830202.

ENTER NOWI’ve put a few definite entries on the map already just to get you started ………………..

Just heard that Bruce Whatley is kindly going to open his garden and offer steam train rides (for a nominal charge of £1) – kids (large and small) will surely love this ……………….

Please come and join us, bring your family and friends for a truly traditional English village experience – we’re looking forward to seeing you all.
