HILTON CRICKET CLUB

As announced at a press conference at the beginning of December, Hilton was elevated to Division 4 of the Hunts League – the reward for having achieved in a single season a record of six matches cancelled owing to rain. Club Captain, Mark Darlow, commented to journalists on the team’s promotion: “I am under the moon. This is the start of a new Golden Age for Hilton cricket. We’re right up there with the big boys. I can’t believe that we’re actually going to be on the same cricket field as Eaton Socon Thirds. There must have been an computer error.” On the back of this uplifting news, it is rumoured that the Club will be appealing to its investors for further financial backing in 2008. Treasurer, Roger Swailes, told City reporters: “We need to buy a map with Werrington on it.”

Celebrations were marred by the revelation that a CD containing the new season’s fixture list had been stolen from the Secretary’s car the previous day. He assured the players that although their names, addresses and bank account details were visible to potential fraudsters, all inside-leg measurements were encrypted. Police later recovered the disc from the pavilion, where it was being used as a coaster.

All being well (and if the Road Manager sobers up), the team should find itself at the following locations on the dates shown:

Our cricketers are currently taking their winter nap and have asked not to be woken up until mid-April. Please respect this, since there is nothing worse than a grumpy short-leg or a dozy second slip at the start of the season.
